Surreal Moment as an Author

A Surreal Moment as an Author– My 3 Minutes of Fame

(This Author Had A TYPO (Thanks for nothing, the Autocorrect! 😂) and needed to fix the title – sorry if you receive it twice!

This is a first – Never Have I Ever had somebody come up to me and ask this question.

Surreal Moment as an Author

I was meeting a friend for lunch – I was there first (which is another first!)! The beautiful hostess, dressed in a bright pink dress, with blonde hair and a warm smile, escorted me to my seat. It was the seat I loved but didn’t request.  It sits by the open window overlooking the creek.  Butterflies nestle in the foliage below, and this day, there was a gentle breeze.

Who Me?

As I was sitting down, the hostess (Barbara) asked if I was an author.  I tried to be cool, really I did – but nobody has ever recognized me before.  I hesitantly replied yes.  Barbara told me she just finished my book, Raising Jess: A Story of Hope.  I suppose I’m new to this, because instead of being a professional accustomed to recognition and skilled nonchalance, I blurted, “Who me?” “Really?  You did?” Wow”

A surprised young woman with blonde hair and blue eyes expressing shock, with her hands on her face.

Barbara said that when I made the reservation, she recognized my name but thought No, it can’t be (her words, not mine). But when I walked in and she saw my curly hair, she decided to take a leap and ask.

Straight Not Curly
She Would Not Recognize me with This Hair

You see, Barbara has a child who requires a lot of assistance.  Her daughter is similar to our daughter, Jessica, in many ways.  Barb told me she loved the book and felt a sense of Hope, and that she wasn’t alone.

Thanks, Dad

I sat down a bit dazed and sent a text to my dad and family telling them the story.  My dad replied with,” Wow that must make you feel very special. And you are.” OK, now it’s really a great day.

Awww Shucks

I hope this doesn’t read like a brag blog – it’s truly a surreal moment and my 3 minutes of fame.

And, I loved every bit of those 180 seconds! And maybe that’s why we got the great table!

Big deal. I get recognized every single day. And I get thanks on top of it. That’s because the recognition comes from Paula, and the thanks is because I make the coffee in the morning.

What a special moment this must’ve been for you, Vickie. Your dad said it best, you are special. And you made a difference in this woman’s life and I’m glad you got to hear it directly from her. 💕

Vicki you are such a funny inspirational and genuine writer . I am sorry I wasn’t at our HS reunion this summer – would have liked to say hi although we weren’t really friends in high school it’s been nice following your success on FB and reading all your stories. Renee’s Reading group is an amazing place to get your name recognition out there -maybe our other classmate Joel Samberg could benefit lol- although I haven’t read any of his novels .
Wishing you more moments of fame and continued success with your book !

Michele , I would have loved to have seen you and I know we’ve connected more through social media than we did in high school. And that completely works.!!!!
I so appreciate your encouragement and support
It was fun seeing a lot of familiar faces! Many people gravitated towards the groups they were in high school. I told Mitch he was my “therapy husband” so whenever I felt like I didn’t know where to go I hung out with him. And he watched the band.
When my book 1st came out, Renee interviewed me and it was such an amazing honor !!!
      I absolutely love her website.
Ashley Adams is another Author from our high school – his review of my book is on the back cover and I did get to see him at the reunion, which was great!!
      Have a great holiday weekend
