My View: As time passes, a childhood home acquires a mythic status
My husband Mitch refers to my childhood home as Tara, the glorious homestead featured in “Gone with the Wind.” My Tara was not antebellum style; it was more suburban Long Island anti-chic. But I was just as devoted to my home as Scarlett O’Hara was.
We moved to Westbury when I was almost 4. My dad’s sister and her family lived next door. On the other side of our house was one of three homes belonging to cousins from another family. Back in the ’60s and ’70s, all the neighborhood kids felt like cousins, connected by shared experiences.
