Since 1979, when I moved to Buffalo, Mitch has tried to indoctrinate me into the Bills’ frenzy. Nah, not interested – OK, I was interested during the Jim Kelly years; we both went to the University of Miami, and we were winning. But, it wasn’t until Josh Allen came to town that I was fully converted. Go Bills!
For some perspective on what it is like in Western New York on Bills game day, I will give you Dad’s perspective after his first game here as a new Buffalonian and new local fan
After the game, we went shopping to get furniture for his new apartment. I warned him that everything would be empty- lucky us- because the game had just ended. “Dad, the city shuts down!” As predicted, the furniture store was empty!
Next we went to Wegmans to buy a few things. Everyone from infants to older adults were wearing Bills gear. I was sporting Bills knee socks and a T-shirt- yes, it is still warm in Buffalo. As we exited the store, we passed the Bills gear area filled with everything a fan could want. My dad’s reaction was, “This is Nuts!” Not sure that’s the word he used, but that was the sentiment. The Bills are a close second to his Giants!

I am such a fan that I set up a field trip to tour the new Bills Stadium with a friend! Younger Vickie would not have wasted her time on this – Bills Vickie couldn’t wait to go!
My friend, Sheryl and I loved the tour. Here are some of the highlights. The food stands are named after Buffalo neighborhoods (Humboldt, Black Rock). The artwork is all by people connected to Buffalo.
My friend Ellen Steinfeld, a renowned multidisciplinary artist, has a beautiful wall relief that is in the permanent collection. You can see her piece on the Club level in the stadium.

The Rockpile (War Memorial Stadium) photo was the original stadium on Jefferson Ave., Buffalo, NY- the scoreboard depicts the GREATEST COMEBACK! In 1993, the Western Union Telegram started the franchise! Go Bills!

Watching the Game is such a ridiculous event each week at our house that my brother-in-law wrote and starred in the movie UNbillievable! The audience-participation version is coming up! Can’t wait!
Tonight… Tonight
Tonight is the first game in the new Bills Highmark Stadium! And I can’t wait! GO BILLS!
PS: After reading my Blog, my dad said, nobody will truly understand the commotion unless they are here. He said, “I am here and I can’t understand it!” I guess you just have to give it some time!
