(My 7-year-old granddaughter’s bright idea about aging, energy, and Nana’s dim headlamp leads to a profound revelation.)
The Walk
My granddaughter and I were walking around my block last night, each of us wearing our headlamp and reflective gear.
Noa’s, age 7, headlamp was bright and vibrant. Vickie, age 69, had the other headlamp that wasn’t as dazzling and a bit humdrum.
Profound
Noa, who knows the ways of the world, explained that it made sense I had the Nana headlamp. “What do you mean by Nana headlamp?” I asked. She explained, as she always does to me, “Because you are not doing cartwheels and things like that anymore. So the energy is different.” She continued, pontificating that “her lamp is bright because she’s doing all kinds of cartwheels and running around and jumping and all that.” Hmmm, interesting observation, I thought.

Depressing?
So, if it wasn’t such a depressing observation, I could really appreciate how profound that was from my seven-year-old granddaughter.
The funny thing is, I never did cartwheels anyway!
